Considerations for Using the School Courses for the Exchange of Data (SCED) Classification System in High School Transcript Studies: Applications for Converting Course Codes from the Classification of Secondary School Courses (CSSC)
Description:
The National Center for Education Statistics (NCES) has collected and analyzed high school transcripts for one graduating class each decade since 1980. This NCES report describes the two course coding systems used to analyze the transcripts: the School Courses for the Exchange of Data (SCED) and the Classification of Secondary School Courses (CSSC). The report also discusses the development of a crosswalk that enables data coded with one system to be converted to the other. The two systems provide an inventory of high school courses taught nationwide, including career and technical education (CTE) courses.
