Career and Technical Education in STEM for Students with Learning Disabilities: Research Updates and Implications

In this Inside IES Research Q&A, Dr. Michael Gottfried, an associate professor at the University of Pennsylvania and a member of our network advisory board, discusses his ongoing research examining whether participation in STEM CTE courses in high school is related to pursuing and persisting in STEM majors or careers for students with learning disabilities (SWLDs). The project, which is funded through a grant from the National Center for Special Education Research (NCSER), was initially featured in an Inside IES Research blog post in March 2020. In this follow-up Q&A with Akilah Nelson, program officer at NCSER, Dr. Gottfried shares updates about his CTE project as well as policy and practice implications of his research.
